OR ventures into green logistics with first-of-its-kind EV trucks for raw coffee beans transport across Thailand’s long-distance routes

Mr. Disathat Panyarachun, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), alongside Dr. Araya Kongsoonthorn, Group Chief Executive Officer of WICE Logistics Group Public Company Limited (WICE), and Mr. Chudet Kongsoonthorn, Group Managing Director – Business Development of WICE Group, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) and Wice Logistics Public Company Limited for the Green Logistics for Café Amazon Project. This groundbreaking initiative involves trialing the transportation of raw coffee beans using electric vehicles, specifically EV Trucks. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Suchat Ramarch, President of OR, and Mr. Dhanes Mekintharanggur, Business Director of WICE, and held at Palang Thai Room 2, M Floor, Tower 2, PTT Head Office.

Mr. Disathat emphasized: The partnership with WICE signifies a pivotal starting point for collaborative exploration and prototyping of “Green Logistics.” This innovative initiative entails trialing the transportation of goods across long distances using EV trucks, a groundbreaking venture in Thailand. The objective is to assess technological feasibility and business viability, thereby enhancing OR’s technological capabilities. Collaboratively, OR and WICE will embark on designing and field-testing EV Trucks, establishing the “Green Coffee Bean Route.” This route will transport raw coffee beans from OR’s warehouse in Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai Province, to the coffee beans warehouse at Lifestyle Café Amazon Business Center (OASYS) in Wang Noi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, leveraging OR’s EV Station PluZ charging network. The route aims to pioneer the use of electric vehicles for cargo transportation, reducing carbon emissions effectively. This initiative is an integral part of our efforts to establish a blueprint for incorporating business value chain considerations into sustainable practices, spanning both OR’s environmental framework and the development of the coffee ecosystem from its origin to its consumption. This includes the procurement of coffee beans in a sustainable manner. Previously, OR has established coffee bean collection points and processing facilities, such as Café Amazon Chiang Mai Milling Plant, in Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai Province. These collection points directly purchase Arabica coffee beans from local farmers in the northern region at fair prices. Furthermore, OR has launched the Café Amazon Park project in Lampang Province to fortify the foundational coffee business of Café Amazon Coffee and to create a new landmark in Lampang Province, fostering a sustainable future.

Dr. Araya stated: The collaboration with OR represents a pivotal step towards integrating ESG principles into business operations, aligning closely with WICE’s policies and vision. This underscores the firm commitment and determination of both entities to contribute to sustained and progressive growth while collectively addressing social and environmental concerns through Green Logistics. Furthermore, it will bolster OR’s ESG strategy by advocating for the widespread adoption of electric trains for travel and freight transport nationwide. This initiative signifies a significant leap towards a greener future, promoting the widespread use of electric vehicles (EVs) across various sectors. WICE has been at the forefront of EV service provision, fostering genuine partnerships with allies and stakeholders to drive adaptation and advancement in cargo transportation and logistics systems, ultimately leading to widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).

This collaboration further reinforces our commitment to a sustainable future under OR SDG, particularly emphasizing the “G” or “GREEN” aspect. It aims to create opportunities for fostering a cleaner society, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating negative environmental impacts across OR’s value chain. Simultaneously, it seeks to increase the proportion of clean energy usage to cultivate a healthy environment and achieve OR 2030 Goals. These goals are aligned to create sustainable growth opportunities alongside community, environmental, and operational excellence, as Mr. Disathat concluded.
